Hi. I'm Mark Burkes. I'm a professional yachtsman with over 200,000 nautical miles and over 30 years experience. I've sailed every ocean in the World several times including The Roaring Forties (9 times), The North & South Atlantic (9 times), North & South Pacific (once each way) and the Indian Ocean.
I've over 15 years teaching experience as an RYA sailing instructor in the UK and I've been both a training & then race skipper for The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race (2011/12 on an Ed Dubois 68 and 2013/14 & 2019/20 on a Tony Castro designed Clipper 70) as skipper on Team Garmin and then WTC Logistics.
I've raced in the Rolex Sydney Hobart, Rolex Fastnet & Swan World Cup as well as many other regattas around the World including Cowes Week, Cork Week and the ARC. I have a B1 / B2 US Visa and ENG 1 and I'm commercially endorsed.

Day Rate for RYA training centres from £175 per day (plus approved expenses).

As a Yachtmaster Ocean Instructor, I've been teaching RYA Courses for more than 15 years.
Own Boat Tuition
I'm not an RYA Training Centre and therefore don't issue RYA Certificates. I can and do offer private sailing tuition.
Worldwide Yacht Delivery
I'm available for yacht delivery on a worldwide basis. Charges from £249 per day plus disbursements. etc.
We are currently compiling a variety of online video courses for the keen novice sailor.
Premium video series will include series on How to pass the ICC and How to become a Day Skipper.
The video series are aimed at students studying for formal sailing qualifications with sanctioned organizations.

I sailed the World as crew on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2011/12. I was a Clipper Race Management & Media Intern (and race crew).
I then worked as a Training Skipper for 18 months before being invited to step in and skipper Team Garmin in the 2013/14 Clipper Race. I was also skipper on WTC Logistics in 2019/20 (legs 1 - 4).
